Large Power Station in West Yorkshire

Share

Lucion was awarded a contract for conducting an Asbestos & Hazardous Materials Demolition Survey at a major power station in West Yorkshire, following a competitive tender process.

This comprehensive project showcases our expertise in managing large-scale, complex surveys in high-risk environments. The project’s success demonstrated our ability to maximise internal resources, collaborate effectively with stakeholders, and operate under strict health and safety protocols.

The scope of the survey was extensive, involving the identification of asbestos containing materials (ACMs) across the entire site. In total, our team collected and analysed over 13,000 samples. Beyond asbestos, we also sampled materials to identify the presence of Cristobalite, Refractory Ceramic Fibres (RCF) and Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS). Additionally, we undertook sampling of water and sludge within the cooling tower ponds for Total Variable Count (TVC) to identify the likelihood of legionella or other potentially hazardous bacteria.

To ensure reliable and swift reporting of analysis results, we subcontracted the analysis of hazardous materials to an approved local supplier. The contract, valued at £450,000, encompassed over 150 structures and buildings across this complex site.

Testimonials

“We have been working with Lucion Delta-Simons since 2022 and their exhaustive investigation and thorough research into Airedale Group’s operations has provided us with an invaluable insight into the business and how we can effectively work towards our net zero objectives.”

Martin Leighton Group Procurement Director

Lucion Group successfully supported E4environment Ltd by conducting a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) assessment of anticipated operational emissions for a proposed project at Easton, Lincolnshire. The plans involved redeveloping a Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) and installing an Anaerobic Digestion plant.

In response to the Finch vs. Surrey County Council court ruling in June 2024, Lincolnshire County Council issued a Section 25 request for additional scrutiny of GHG emissions before planning consent could be granted. Lucion Group Associate Consultant, Rob Dadzie, submitted a detailed GHG emissions assessment and clear report addressing the council’s concerns. His expertise and support ensured the final submission met the latest Environmental Impact Assessment requirements.

The contribution of Lucion Group and Rob Dadzie to the project team meant the project successfully satisfied the Local Authority’s conditions, enabling Council members to determine unanimous approval of the final planning application. Once operational, the site will process 120,000 tonnes of feedstock per year, generating 5MW of renewable biogas energy to supply on-site cold storage and other facilities.
