Invasive Species FAQs

Yes, particularly for species like Japanese knotweed and Giant hogweed. We work with INNSA-registered contractors to ensure all treatment work meets industry best practice standards and regulatory requirements.

Treatment duration varies depending on the species present and the extent of infestation. Japanese knotweed typically requires a minimum 3-year treatment programme, while other species may be controlled more quickly.

If invasive species are identified, we can provide advice on next steps and provide contact details for specialist contractors who will be able to assist with the development of a management plan tailored to your site and circumstances. This may include treatment programmes, containment measures, and necessary documentation for planning authorities or property transactions.

While surveys can be conducted year-round, the optimal period is during the growing season (April to October) when plants are most visible and identifiable. However, evidence of some species, particularly Japanese knotweed, can be detected even during winter months.

Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended), it’s an offence to allow certain invasive plants to spread in the wild. Additionally, species like Japanese knotweed can significantly impact property values and development potential. Professional surveys help identify risks early and ensure compliance with legislation.
