We are pleased to announce our recognition for our commitment to workplace mental health, securing three shortlist nominations at the This Can Happen Awards 2025.
Investing in Our People, Supporting Our Clients
Our 2025 mental health and wellbeing-focused initiatives have earned nominations in three distinct categories, demonstrating our commitment to creating a resilient and sustainable organisation that delivers exceptional service to both our team and to our clients.
As part of many clients’ essential supply chains, we understand that our strength lies in our people, and supporting their wellbeing is crucial to maintaining the high standards our clients expect.
Creating Lasting Cultural Change
Our innovative “Been There Will Share” programme, shortlisted for Best New Workplace Approach to Mental Wellbeing, demonstrates our commitment to building a sustainable and resilient workforce. By creating an environment where mental health conversations are normalised, we’re ensuring our teams are better equipped to support not only each other but also our clients’ projects and objectives.
“ Caring for our people through investment in wellbeing helps us care better for our clients” says Carolyn Cole, our Chief People Officer. “ It’s encouraging to see our teams embrace these initiatives at Lucion and help make mental health a real part of our industry’s everyday conversation.“
Developing Future Industry Leaders
The nomination of our QHSE Manager Mariam Elkaradia for Best Young Wellbeing Advocate reflects our commitment to nurturing talent within our organisation and the wider industry. Through her role as Chair of Generation for Change (G4C) East Midlands, we’re actively contributing to the development of future industry leaders who understand the importance of wellbeing in delivering successful projects.
Supporting Local Communities
Under Carolyn Cole’s leadership, shortlisted for Executive Sponsor of the Year, we’ve doubled our volunteer days and enhanced our community engagement programmes. This investment in local communities strengthens our connection with the areas where we operate and where our clients’ projects make a difference.
Our initiatives include:
- Local community support through increased volunteer days
- Mental health awareness training benefiting both our teams and project partnerships
- Gender-specific support networks enhancing workplace diversity
- Practical wellbeing solutions that create stable project teams
Further information about our various initiatives can be found in our 2025 Wellbeing Plan.
Strengthening Supply Chain Resilience
“Our approach to mental health and wellbeing isn’t just about caring for our team, it’s about being a reliable, stable, and resilient partner in our clients’ supply chains. When people are supported and valued, they bring their best selves to work, helping to deliver better results and contributing more effectively to clients’ projects.“
– Phil Coles, our Chief Executive Officer, Lucion.
Industry Leadership
As part of our commitment to being a responsible supply chain partner, we’re addressing critical industry challenges head-on. With two construction workers dying by suicide every day in the UK, our proactive approach includes:
- Training 10% of our workforce as Mental Health First Aiders
- Mandatory mental health awareness training for all managers
- Creating inclusive support networks
- Implementing practical wellbeing solutions across all sites
Building a Sustainable Future
Our nominations in the This Can Happen Awards reflect our ongoing commitment to creating a sustainable business model that benefits our people, our clients, and our communities.
“Our wellbeing initiatives are integral to our business strategy,” concludes Carolyn Cole. “By creating a mentally healthy workplace culture, we’re building a more resilient organisation that can better serve our clients, support our communities, and contribute to positive industry change.”
This triple shortlisting validates our approach to creating a sustainable business model that prioritises people while delivering excellence in environmental risk management services.
The winners will be announced at the This Can Happen Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 19th November 2025.
