Lucion's latest NexGen enhancement brings radon risk assessment and compliance tracking into a unified platform, enabling property managers to oversee radiation protection alongside asbestos, legionella, and other hazardous materials.

Following the successful launch of our legionella module in April 2026, we are pleased to introduce comprehensive radon management capabilities to the NexGen portal, further expanding the platform’s role as a centralised hub for hazardous materials and environmental compliance.

The new module leverages the enhanced V2 platform infrastructure to transform how our clients manage radon risk assessments, testing coordination, and ongoing compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 and HSE guidance.

Building on a Stronger Foundation

The radon module benefits from the same robust infrastructure that underpins NexGen’s existing capabilities, including the redesigned interface, advanced data management, and mobile-optimised experience that enables compliance management from anywhere.

Paul Hayball, Software Engineering Director at Lucion, commented:

“Our clients need visibility and control across all their environmental risks in one place. The radon module responds directly to that feedback, bringing radiation protection into the same workflow where they’re already managing asbestos, legionella, and other compliance requirements.

By centralising radon data alongside other hazardous materials, we’re simplifying what can be a complex regulatory landscape and helping clients demonstrate comprehensive duty of care across their entire property portfolio.”

Unified Risk Visibility Across Your Portfolio

The standout benefit of the radon module is its ability to consolidate radiation risk management within the same platform clients use for their broader environmental compliance, eliminating the need for separate systems and fragmented documentation.

Kevan O’Neill, Principal Consultant leading Lucion’s radon services, explained:

Radon is often managed in isolation from other building risks, but in reality, duty holders need to assess and control multiple hazards simultaneously. NexGen brings radon into that holistic view.

When our assessments identify elevated radon levels, particularly in workplaces where the 200 Bq/m³ Action Level triggers legal duties under IRR17, clients can immediately see those risks alongside their asbestos registers, legionella assessments, and other compliance data. This unified approach means nothing falls through the cracks, and clients can prioritise actions across all their environmental risks effectively.”

Complete Radon Compliance Management

The NexGen radon module provides comprehensive tools for managing radiation protection across single sites or entire property portfolios. Our clients can:

  • View automatically generated radon risk assessments with clear comparison to UK thresholds (Target Level: 100 Bq/m³, Action Level: 200 Bq/m³) with red, amber, green indicators. For high risk identified areas, our specialist Radiation Protection Advisers provide professional consultancy.
  • Access detailed measurement data including winter-corrected values and room-by-room analysis – see a list of your monitors with pictures and readings updated on site by our surveyors
  • Track compliance status across multiple sites with dashboard visibility of radon affected areas with interactive map viewer
  • Integrate with broader risk assessments viewing radon data alongside asbestos, legionella, and other hazardous materials

The mobile-optimised interface means responsible persons can access radon compliance data from site visits, making it easier to coordinate testing, review results, and plan mitigation measures without returning to the office.

Quality Standards That Meet Radon Regulatory Requirements

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas and a leading cause of lung cancer in the UK. It enters buildings from the ground and can accumulate to dangerous levels, particularly in areas with specific geological characteristics.

The Health and Safety Executive states radon risk assessment cannot rely on nearby results. Each building must be assessed individually. For property managers overseeing multiple sites, particularly in radon affected areas, this creates a significant compliance requirement.

Building Regulations 2010 also require radon protective measures in new construction within affected areas, making radon assessment relevant across property acquisition, management, and development activities.

Our radon assessments follow strict protocols aligned with UK Health Security Agency guidance, HSE workplace requirements, and industry best practice including BRE Report BR211. All reports address the legislative framework including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017.

This attention to regulatory detail ensures our clients receive documentation that not only meets their legal duties but provides clear, actionable information for managing radon risks effectively.

Part of a Broader Digital Transformation

With radon affecting properties across the UK, and legal duties triggered at measurable thresholds, the ability to track radiation protection alongside other environmental compliance requirements represents a natural evolution of the NexGen platform.

The radon module continues Lucion’s strategic expansion of digital service delivery, enabling clients to manage environmental compliance holistically rather than through disconnected systems. This benefits both our internal teams, who can deliver more integrated consultancy, and our clients, who gain complete oversight of their compliance obligations in one place.
