Today marks a significant milestone in Lucion's digital journey as we launch the most comprehensive upgrade to NexGen since the platform's inception.
Following 18 months of intensive development, the enhanced platform introduces new capabilities designed to help organisations manage environmental risk more effectively whilst meeting increasingly complex regulatory requirements.
A Platform Built on Client Insight
The upgrade has been shaped by extensive feedback from our user community and reflects the evolving challenges facing compliance and environmental professionals.
Our in-house software engineering team, led by Software Engineering Director Paul Hayball, has rebuilt core elements of the platform to deliver faster insights, greater automation, and improved usability.
“We’ve spent over a year working closely with our clients to understand their daily challenges,” says Hayball. “This upgrade addresses the practical realities of managing compliance data across complex estates, whilst introducing technology that genuinely saves time without compromising on standards.”
What’s Changed
The upgraded platform introduces several key enhancements:
Redesigned Interface
The user interface has been completely rebuilt with a focus on clarity and speed. A new six-tile dashboard layout provides customisable views of compliance status across entire estates, whilst improved navigation reduces the time needed to access critical information.
Additionally, the new NexGen interface is designed for a seamless mobile experience, providing users with access to all their data at their fingertips.
Enhanced Data Management
It’s easier than ever to filter, search, and sort through your new live risk register, as well as managing your asbestos management action plan (AMAP) actions. New features, including centralised File Store, comprehensive document history tracking, and an Interactive Services Map give teams better visibility and control over their compliance data.
Advanced Visualisation Tools
Upgraded Site Lists, Risk Maps, and Live Data Trees offer multiple ways to view and analyse compliance information, making it easier to identify areas requiring attention and to report on progress to senior stakeholders.
Introducing NexGenAI
Perhaps the most significant development is NexGenAI, our secure artificial intelligence engine.
Unlike many AI tools that retain or train on user data, NexGenAI operates within Lucion’s protected AWS infrastructure, ensuring client data remains secure, is never retained, and remains compliant with data protection requirements.
The AI engine provides automated insights, intelligent reporting capabilities, and predictive analytics to help our clients identify potential compliance issues before they escalate.
Development of NexGenAI followed Lucion’s success in the AWS Generative AI Hackathon in late 2024, where our approach to secure, client-controlled AI processing was recognised for its innovation. Talking about security, Paul Hayball explains;
“Data security is non-negotiable in our sector. We’ve built NexGenAI to deliver the analytical power of artificial intelligence whilst maintaining complete control over client data within a secure, enterprise cloud environment where client data remains encrypted and is never retained, shared, or used for model training.
Early Feedback
Our long standing client, Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been working with the upgraded platform during the testing phase.
Rob Lowe, Capital Project Manager (RAAC, Asbestos & CDM), describes the impact:
“The new NexGen portal represents a significant advancement in how we manage our compliance data. The modern, intuitive interface is a massive upgrade, and the dashboard’s six-tile layout provides exactly what we need for our board reporting requirements.
“The system’s enhanced tracking capabilities allow us to monitor changes efficiently, with the data intelligence providing precise insights into our compliance journey. The user experience is notably improved, making data management and reporting more efficient than ever.”
Supporting the UK’s Progress To Net Zero
The timing of this upgrade coincides with increasing pressure on organisations to demonstrate progress on Net Zero commitments and broader ESG objectives.
Whilst many organisations look to refurbish or retrofit their buildings for greener initiatives, legacy issues such as asbestos, pose real threats to project viability. NexGen’s enhanced tracking and reporting capabilities are designed to support this, providing the data infrastructure needed to for building enhancement to happen.
From asbestos and legionella management to radiation monitoring, the platform consolidates environmental risk data in a single system, making it easier to identify improvement opportunities and to report on progress.
Phil Coles, Chief Executive Officer, says: “Environmental compliance and sustainability are increasingly interconnected. Organisations need tools that help them meet regulatory requirements whilst also supporting their broader environmental commitments. This upgrade positions NexGen to support both objectives.”
What Happens Next
Existing NexGen users will be transitioned to the upgraded platform over the coming weeks, with comprehensive training and support provided throughout.
For organisations not currently using NexGen, we’re offering demonstrations of the upgraded platform to showcase how it can support more effective compliance management and environmental risk reduction.
The upgrade represents a substantial investment in our digital infrastructure and reflects our ongoing commitment to providing technology that genuinely serves the needs of environmental and compliance professionals.
