As September marks Mesothelioma Awareness Month, we are excited to announce that a team of nine dedicated runners will be participating in the prestigious AJ Bell Great North Run on Sunday 8th September. Our team is running with a purpose - to raise crucial funds for Mesothelioma UK, a charity that plays a pivotal role in supporting individuals and families affected by mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer caused primarily by asbestos exposure.
The Great North Run: More Than Just a Marathon
The AJ Bell Great North Run is not just any marathon – it’s the largest half-marathon in the world. Every year, over 60,000 runners take on the 13.1-mile route from Newcastle to South Shields. Participants include elite athletes, charity runners, and individuals looking to push their personal limits. The race has become an iconic event in the UK’s sporting calendar, with runners and spectators alike coming together in a celebration of endurance, community spirit, and charity.
For Lucion, this race holds a special significance. Our runners are not just participating in the event; they are running for a cause that is very close to our hearts. With our involvement in asbestos industry, we are very aware of the devastating impact that mesothelioma can have on individuals and their families. That’s why we are proud to align ourselves with Mesothelioma UK, the UK’s leading national specialist resource center for mesothelioma support, research, and advocacy.
Mesothelioma UK: A Lifeline for Many
Mesothelioma UK was founded in 2004 with initial funding from Macmillan Cancer Support. Over the years, it has grown into a national charity dedicated to providing information, support, and improved treatment and care for mesothelioma sufferers across the UK. The charity offers a wide range of services, including a specialist nurse helpline, information on treatment options, and support groups for patients and their families.
The charity not only raises awareness about the dangers of asbestos exposure but also advocates for better treatments and care pathways for mesothelioma patients. Its work is vital in helping to improve the quality of life for those affected by this devastating disease.
As a provider of holistic asbestos TICC (Testing, Inspection, Certification, and Compliance) services, Lucion Group is closely aligned with Mesothelioma UK’s mission. Our work in managing and mitigating the risks of asbestos exposure naturally complements the charity’s efforts to support those who have been affected by asbestos-related illnesses. By participating in the Great North Run, we hope to raise both awareness and funds to further their mission.

Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to making a real difference in the lives of mesothelioma patients and their families.
