Last week a team of Lucion riders took on the gruelling 100-mile annual C2C2C charity cycle ride and raised over £1,000 for the Children’s Bereavement Centre.
About the C2C2C Race
First held in 2011, the C2C2C (castle to coast to castle) was introduced as a way to get more people cycling, raise some money for charity and have some fun. To date there have been over 5,000 riders and £244,650 raised for numerous charities. The ride is held on a weekday and aims to get people from local businesses out of the office and onto their bikes whilst raising money for charity.
The Children’s Bereavement Centre
This year we rode on behalf of and raised funds for the Children’s Bereavement Centre. This fantastic charity provides support to children and young people experiencing trauma due to the death or terminal illness of someone they love.
Only 4% of The Children’s Bereavement Centre’s funding comes from the government. Everything else is raised through donations and fundraising. Lucion Group Travel Coordinator, Rachel Woodhead, is a regular volunteer for the charity and brought this opportunity to our ESG team via our Social Value Delivery Procedure.
“I have been fundraising and volunteering at events and challenges arranged by the Children’s Bereavement Centre for over 4 years. We raise funds so that the charity can help children and families during the hardest times in their lives. It’s a place where grief is openly discussed, and volunteers are really appreciated for their efforts, which encourages great team spirit and wellbeing.
Volunteers tend to be very open with each other about their emotional journey, creating a safe place to share personal details without judgement.
We have a lot of fun at these events, often including tears and laughter, as visitors talk to us about their personal experience of bereavement.”
Rachel Woodhead, Group Travel Coordinator
Together with our sponsorship and additional entry fees which also get donated to the charity, we have raised over £1,000 so far! If you’d like still like to sponsor our team, please visit our fundraising page here.
