We are proud to share that two of our Radiation Protection Advisers, Jon Harrison and Scott Walker have achieved full Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA) accreditation - increasing the number of RWAs that Lucion operates with to six.
Scott and Jon, who are already fully certified Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs), have been working towards the professional qualification – awarded by the UK Environment Agencies RWA assessing body, RPA 2000 – since joining Lucion.
The certification process requires candidates to generate a diverse portfolio of work covering all aspects of environmental regulations, demonstrating practical competence alongside workplace experience. Scott has also gained his NEBOSH National General Certificate since joining the Lucion radiation team.
“When I came to work here in 2021 as an RPA, my main aim was to achieve RWA accreditation, so I’m proud to have now accomplished this goal. There are less than 250 people who hold an active RWA certificate, and less than 500 certificates have been issued. These figures highlight how rare RWAs are in the UK, which makes it even more of an achievement.”
-Scott Walker, Radiation Protection Adviser
“Jon, who has been working at Lucion since 2022, added: “Since joining Lucion Radiation Protection Services in 2022, I’ve had the opportunity to learn and gain experience in the management of radioactive wastes. I have been able to compile a portfolio to show my suitability as an RWA. Portfolio evidence included environmental impact assessments, auditing of client operations and drafting waste management procedures. I appreciate all the support given by colleagues throughout the process and I’m grateful to have learned from their knowledge and expertise in the subject, which I continue to do.”
-Jon Harrison, Radiation Protection Adviser
“This is a great example of how Lucion supports employees to achieve their professional development goals and to help them grow into new roles within the company. Having two more fully certified RWAs will make a real difference in terms of our ability to provide the best possible service to our clients.”
-Matt Brodie, Radiation Services Director
