Our specialist UKAS-accredited Geotechnical Testing Laboratory (No. 8180), has successfully completed its 2026 UKAS surveillance assessment, demonstrating continued excellence in geotechnical testing and analysis.
Our geotechnical laboratory is run by Lucion Ground Engineering Ltd, our specialist geotechnical and geoenvironmental company, which has been operating since 1936. The assessment, conducted at our Peterborough facility in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards, reinforced our position as a leader in delivering high-quality, reliable geotechnical testing services.
Exceptional Performance Recognised
The UKAS assessment report highlighted numerous strengths across our laboratory operations, with particular praise for our team’s expertise and professionalism. The assessment report noted that “the staff witnessed performing technical activities demonstrated an excellent level of competence,” with only one minor deviation observed across all testing demonstrations. Our team’s proficiency was evident across multiple testing methods, including water content determination, Atterberg limits, compaction testing (CBR and MCV), and dry density/water content relationships.
Perhaps most significantly, the assessor observed:
“It was clear from observing the behaviour of staff, and from conversation with those being assessed, that there is a positive work culture whereby work is carried out diligently and with a certain level of pride.”
The report further commended:
“The openness and effort made by laboratory personnel throughout the assessment was greatly appreciated.”
Our laboratory facilities were found to be well-organised and fit for purpose, with effective separation of test methods based on material type, discipline, and environmental impacts. Equipment was noted as “clean, well maintained and labelled appropriately,” with metrological traceability maintained through an appropriate calibration regime. The validity of our results continues to be assured through internal comparative exercises and participation in proficiency testing schemes, with the 2025 results showing excellent correlation to mean values.
