We are pleased to announce that Team Leader and Radiation Protection Adviser Jon Harrison has successfully achieved his Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) qualification on his first attempt, further strengthening the company's comprehensive radiation protection offering.
The DGSA qualification enables Jon to provide specialist advice on the transport of Class 7 dangerous goods (radioactive materials), strengthening Lucion Radiation Protection Services’ current operational delivery.
Why DGSA
Businesses that routinely consign, transport, pack, load or unload dangerous goods by road, rail or inland waterway are legally required to appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser. This requirement extends beyond transport operators to include cargo consignors, freight forwarders, packers and others in the dangerous goods chain.
Jon’s new qualification allows him to support our Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) and Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA) clients across the full spectrum of radioactive material management—from use through to transport and where required, disposal.
Integrated Service for Clients
The DGSA qualification covers advice on training, compliance, risk assessment, packing requirements, transport documentation, emergency planning and annual reporting for Class 7 materials. Lucion currently offers this service to haulage operators, radiography companies, clients handling sealed sources, and those handling waste e.g. NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material) contaminated equipment and solids.
Jon Harrison commented;
“Achieving the DGSA qualification was a challenging but rewarding process, and I’m pleased to have passed first time. What excites me most is being able to offer our clients a truly joined-up service. With other suppliers, companies may need separate advisers for radiation protection and dangerous goods transport, but with Lucion, we provide that expertise under one roof.
Whether a client is managing radiography sources, sealed sources, or dealing with NORM waste, we can support them from cradle to grave, covering everything from safe use and storage through to compliant transport and disposal. It’s about making compliance simpler and safety stronger for our clients.”
By combining RPA/RWA and DGSA support, our specialist radiation team offer clients a truly integrated service, helping them maintain compliance and improve safety across both radioactive material use, and transport activities.
Lucion Radiation Protection Services Director, Matt Brodie, added;
“Jon’s achievement is fantastic news for both our team and our clients. Passing the DGSA qualification first time demonstrates his commitment to professional development and his deep understanding of the regulatory landscape.
Our continued investment in our team to attain this qualification genuinely sets us apart in the market, with our ability to offer integrated RPA, RWA and DGSA services. For our clients, it means fewer advisers to consult, more consistent advice, and the peace of mind that comes from working with a team that understands the full lifecycle of radioactive material management. We’re very proud of Jon’s accomplishment.”
