Situated three miles to the south of Bedford and covering an area in excess of 380 Ha, the former Elstow Storage Depot is being transformed into a new community, consisting of four villages offering new homes, jobs, amenities and educational facilities. The works will support the transformation of the former munitions works into a vibrant new community. Once completed, Wixams will be home to 4,500 families who will benefit from 121 Ha of landscaped parkland and facilities.
Key features of this exciting new settlement include the four landscaped greenways that provide a network of public open spaces, including 12 kilometres of footpath and cycle path/leisure routes. The development also provides a high quality transport package including the provision of a future new railway station and transport interchange, making London a 35 minute commute.
Simon Clennell-Jones, Unit Director with Delta-Simons, commented "Having had personal involvement in the scheme for several years, I am very pleased that Delta-Simons has the opportunity to support Gallagher Estates in the next phase of this exciting development."
The Wixams previously won a Brownfield Briefing Award in 2014 for the Best Re-use of Materials.
