We are proud to announce that the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has awarded Lucion Group the President's Award for continued group-wide fleet safety performance and our management of occupational road risk after achieving the gold award for the 10th consecutive year.
This year’s achievement is especially significant, as it comes during the 70th anniversary of the RoSPA Health and Safety Awards, a major milestone celebrating seven decades of progress, leadership and life-saving work across the safety community. As the ultimate symbol of excellence, the internationally renowned RoSPA Awards recognise organisations, like Lucion, teams and projects for their unwavering commitment to protecting lives, setting the benchmark for safety and inspiring sector-wide admiration.
Starting out as a small event to recognise the achievements of companies prioritising the safety of workers in the UK, the RoSPA Awards has now grown into the biggest health and safety awards programme in the world, with the 2026 awards attracting 2,000 different entries from nearly 60 countries.
A Decade of Fleet Safety
Nick Aspinall, Operations Director at Lucion Group, commented on Lucion’s milestone saying:
“Achieving the RoSPA President’s Award is tremendous, reflecting 10 years of commitment and professionalism of our drivers. We are constantly looking for new ways to ensure fleet safety remains top of mind.
Six months ago, we launched an initiative with our drivers focusing on tighter speed controls and weekly vehicle checks, monitored through our system, Lightfoot, seeing a significant positive response from our teams. Safer and more responsible driving not only helps protect our colleagues and other road users, but also delivers wider benefits for the business, including improved fuel efficiency, fewer driving-related Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs), and reduced wear and tear on our vehicles.
But these improvements, like all effective health and safety cultures, aren’t a one-way conversation. We actively seek feedback from our drivers about the real-world challenges they face on the road, and we continuously review our policies to ensure they remain practical, fair, and aligned with our commitment to safety. This collaborative approach means our managers work alongside drivers to provide support and guidance that reflects the diverse driving environments our teams navigate daily, helping ensure safe and responsible driving at all times.
I want to thank every one of our drivers for their continued dedication to maintaining the high standards that have earned us this recognition.”
The Take Care, Be Aware (TCBA) Initiative
Operating a positive feedback health and safety culture is essential for developing practices that work in the real world. Since 2021, Lucion has grown significantly through both organic and acquisitive growth, now operating as 6 Business Units. Ensuring health and safety policies and practices are adopted across the group is no small feat. Which is why we launched and continued to develop our Take Care, Be Aware (TCBA) internal initiative, a two-way approach to safety, embedded throughout our operations.
Launched in 2013, TCBA promotes a positive health, safety, environmental and sustainability culture built on three core principles:
- Engage
- Review
- Implement
Through TCBA, facilitated by our proprietary risk management software NexGen, our team members submit observations, suggestions for improvements, and reports of near misses and accidents. These submissions are reviewed by our QHSE Team, and beneficial changes are incorporated into our policies and Standard Operational Procedures. This means our health and safety practices are continuously shaped by the real-world experiences of the people on the ground, creating an adaptable system that works in practice, not just on paper.
Lucion’s QHSE Director, Chris Parr, comments:
“Our TCBA initiative underlines that for Lucion, effective safety management isn’t about top-down directives, but instead focuses on creating a culture where every team member has a voice and knows their feedback drives genuine change. This engagement has resulted in consistently improved safety outcomes, fewer accidents, and safer working practices for our staff, clients, and their stakeholders. Operating a fleet with over 200 vehicles, embedded and contextualised health and safety practices are essential.”
The Importance of Road Safety for Employees
According to University College London, a third of road deaths and a fifth of serious injuries involve a working driver or rider. In May 2026, the Department for Transport reported that there were an estimated 1556 fatalities in 2025 related to road collisions in Great Britain.
To improve these numbers, RoSPA assesses if employers and regulators can do more to educate and protect employees on the roads.
Employer Responsibilities for Road Safety
The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 requires employers to appropriately manage employee health and safety at work, including driving or travelling for work, as reasonably practicable. Employers must manage employees’ driving-related risks as part of health and safety measures.
HSE states managing road safety benefits by:
- Reducing work-related ill health risks
- Minimising stress and promoting better welfare
- Reducing driver injuries
- Promoting awareness of organisational health, safety, and operational procedures
- The ‘Plan, Do, Check, Act’ Method for a Good Safety Management System
The HSE encourages the ‘Plan, Do, Check, Act’ method for a good Safety Management System:
- Plan – Describe how you’ll manage health and safety and implement into operational procedures.
- Do – Prioritise identified risks, communicate information and training.
- Check – Measure plan effectiveness at protecting from driving-related risks. Encourage reporting accidents and near misses.
- Act – Review learnings from plan performance and effectiveness, adjusting policy and procedures as needed.
Managing Occupational Road Risks (MORR)
Developed in 1987 by RoSPA and partners, Managing Occupational Road Risks (MORR) helps organisations take vested interest in employee health and safety on roads, including commutes. MORR is a fundamental element, not an add-on, to managing workplace health and safety. Ensuring driver awareness of specific practises is vital to safeguarding employees and the public.
RoSPA promotes best practises during all occupational activities, including driving. Additionally, through safer driving practices, MORR also promotes sustainable and eco-friendly driving.
Lightfoot Technology for a Safe, Eco-Conscious Fleet
To operate a safe, eco-conscious fleet, we operate our fleet with Lightfoot technology installed, a dashboard display providing real-time driver feedback. Using advanced engine analytics, it coaches drivers to improve efficiency and safety, rewarding Elite Driver status. We’re pleased to report that our drivers continue to maintain high Elite Driver achievement rates, reflecting their commitment to safe and responsible driving.
Julia Small, RoSPA’s Growth Director, said:
“RoSPA congratulates Lucion Group on its RoSPA Award. The high standards Lucion Group has achieved are the result of hard work and dedication, of which Lucion Group should be rightfully proud and which RoSPA is delighted to honour. 2026 is a landmark year for the RoSPA Awards as we reflect on how far workplace safety has come in 70 years. It is because of the commitment of health and safety leaders like Lucion Group that people today are safer at work than in the past, and sets an inspiring example for the future.”
Thank You to Our Drivers
We would like to thank every one of our drivers across our fleet for their continued commitment to maintaining high driving standards and helping us achieve these positive outcomes.
Your dedication has been instrumental in earning this 10-year recognition from RoSPA.
