We are pleased to announce that Lucion has been shortlisted for Partnership and Collaboration of the Year at the ASCP Safety and Compliance Awards 2026, following a nomination from our client St Leger Homes of Doncaster.
The nomination centres on a routine asbestos survey that became anything but routine when our Lucion Services Ltd surveyor, Steven Sumpner, recognised that an elderly tenant was struggling. During a visit to complete a survey ahead of a central heating upgrade, Steven noticed the property was in an unkempt state, with the tenant appearing unable to maintain basic cleaning or use facilities properly.
Rather than refusing to complete the survey due to the property’s condition, Steven recognised the tenant as someone who wouldn’t ask for help or “make a fuss.” They completed the work and immediately contacted St Leger Homes of Doncaster’s team to raise safeguarding concerns.
Swift Action, Lasting Impact
The information was immediately escalated to St Leger Homes’ Housing Officer and safeguarding team, who conducted a welfare check and put support measures in place within their 24-hour response timeframe. Crucially, because the survey was completed, the tenant was able to receive their central heating upgrade, making their home warmer and more comfortable.
St Leger Homes of Doncaster (SLHD) praised the partnership in their ASCP Partnership award submission, noting:
“We believe that the surveyor only got the survey completed because he felt for the tenant and wanted to help as much as he could. As an organisation we just felt that the actions from our asbestos contractors like this is not highlighted as it should be when they visit SLHD properties in some cases like this, where SLHD have not been able to access properties for various reasons. So, putting our tenants first.”
