We are pleased to announce that Lucion has renewed our corporate membership with the Arboricultural Association, reaffirming our commitment to excellence in arboriculture and tree management as England embarks on an ambitious programme to increase tree canopy and woodland cover.

In December 2025, the government published its Tree Canopy and Woodland Cover Environment Act Target Delivery Plan, setting out a statutory target to increase England’s tree canopy and woodland cover to at least 16.5% of all land by 31 December 2050. An interim target aims to increase cover by 0.33% of land area by December 2030 (equivalent to a net increase of 43,000 hectares).

This ambitious programme of tree planting and woodland creation will require expert arboricultural guidance at every stage, from site assessment and BS5837 Tree Surveys through to long-term tree management and monitoring. Our renewed membership with the Arboricultural Association ensures our team remains at the forefront of best practice as we support clients navigating these significant changes to England’s landscape.

Chris Callaghan, Principal Arboricultural Consultant at Lucion Delta-Simons Ltd, commented:

“I’m delighted that Lucion has renewed our corporate membership with the Arboricultural Association at such a pivotal time for the industry. The government’s Tree Canopy and Woodland Cover Environment Act Target Delivery Plan represents a significant national commitment to increasing England’s tree cover, and this will create both opportunities and challenges for developers, land managers, and local authorities.

Our membership ensures we remain connected to the latest industry guidance and best practice, which will be essential as we support clients navigating the implications of these ambitious targets. Whether it’s conducting pre-development tree surveys, advising on tree protection during construction, or supporting woodland creation schemes, our expertise helps clients balance development needs with environmental responsibilities.”

If you are navigating complex planning requirements relating to tree protection or looking to optimise your development layouts to retain valuable trees and contribute to local and national tree canopy targets, we ensure compliance with BS5837:2012 and other relevant standards whilst additionally supporting Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements.
