Our specialist environmental and sustainability company, Lucion Delta-Simons Ltd, is pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Pelton as Biodiversity Net Gain Lead, strengthening the company's ecological consultancy capabilities at a pivotal time for nature recovery in the UK.

With eight years of experience as an ecological consultant, Alex brings extensive expertise in applied Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) across residential and commercial projects. His appointment comes as the BNG landscape continues to evolve, with recent government announcements confirming the extension of mandatory BNG to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) from November 2026 and introducing targeted exemptions to support SME developers.

Proven Track Record in BNG Delivery

Alex joins Lucion Delta-Simons from senior roles that have positioned him at the forefront of BNG implementation in the built environment. As former Group Biodiversity Manager at Barratt Developments plc and Biodiversity Technical Lead on the DfE School Rebuilding Project Framework for Mace, he has developed a unique skill set in developing, delivering and managing biodiversity net gain and ecological projects at scale.

His extensive experience spans all versions of the Biodiversity Metric, including the Statutory Biodiversity Metric, and encompasses detailed habitat and land use mapping. Alex has also worked on biodiversity projects under Scottish and Welsh legislative and policy frameworks, providing Lucion’s clients with truly UK-wide expertise.

Alex commented on his appointment to Lucion Delta-Simons Ltd saying:

“I’m delighted to be joining at such an exciting time for biodiversity net gain. The recent government announcements demonstrate BNG’s growing maturity as a framework that can deliver for both nature and development. I look forward to working with our clients to navigate these changes and deliver nature-led solutions that create lasting environmental benefits whilst supporting their development ambitions.”

Martin Lucass, Director of Environment, added:

“Alex’s appointment significantly strengthens our ecology and BNG offering. His unique combination of housebuilder, infrastructure and consultancy experience means he understands the practical challenges our clients face and can deliver pragmatic, compliant solutions.

As BNG requirements evolve and extend to major infrastructure, Alex’s expertise will be critical in helping our clients achieve their development goals whilst contributing to nature recovery.”

Supporting Clients Through Regulatory Change

With BNG set to prevent between 6,000 and 10,000 hectares of habitat loss annually and the government introducing a phased programme of updates to exemptions, the biodiversity gain hierarchy and the statutory biodiversity metric throughout 2026, Alex’s appointment ensures Lucion remains at the forefront of BNG delivery.

His expertise will support clients across all development types as they navigate the evolving regulatory landscape, from minor residential schemes benefiting from new exemptions to major infrastructure projects preparing for mandatory BNG from November 2026.

Now is the time to integrate biodiversity into your scheme design. Alex and our team at Lucion Delta-Simons Ltd can help you navigate the new streamlined framework and identify the most cost-effective delivery options.
