A look back at 2017

Delta-Simons saw a very productive 2017 with many exciting things happening to support the growth of the company. Here we take a look at some of the highlights…

New services

Arboriculture services were launched towards the end of 2017.  Working closely with our in-house Ecology team, the Arboriculture team can carry out a range of tree surveys and impact assessments, enabling us to identify and offer advice in the early stages of the development process.  More recently saw one of our Ecologists qualify for their aerial tree license which not only helps to identify the condition of trees but also assists in determining whether there is the presence of bats roosting. Following the appointment of Jonathan Mape, we are now able to offer Air Quality and Noise services, which sits under our Environmental Planning sector. Wellbeing was introduced at the beginning of 2017, with Managing Director Alex Ferguson, and Technical Director, Roger Griffiths, qualifying as a WELL Accredited Professionals. The WELL AP is the leading credential signifying advanced knowledge of health and wellbeing in the built environment and specialisation in the WELL Building Standard™.  Alex took part in Arup's discussion at MIPIM 2017 to discuss how health and wellbeing are shaping the built environment.   At the end of the year our Wellbeing offer expanded further with Charlotte Wilson qualifying as a Fitwel^® Ambassador. A number of the Environment, Health & Safety team now have NEBOSH certification. NEBOSH is a UK-based independent examination board delivering vocational qualifications in health, safety & environmental practice and management, which enables the team to extend the EHS service offering in workplace safety.

New offices

The Central region saw unprecedented growth, and as such opened offices in Nottingham in May 2017, bringing with it a number of new geo-environmental jobs.  Headed up by Paul Bennett, Unit Director for the Midlands team, the decision to invest in a Nottingham-based team was to further expand its client base in the city and across the wider region. The Nottingham office works in conjunction with the firm’s headquarters in Lincoln. In December, we opened a Birmingham office.  Again, this was so that we could represent our services in the West Midlands, but also create new jobs and attract new talent.  Currently heading up the Birmingham office is EHS Unit Director, Jim Clifford. We moved our drilling operations to larger premises in Lincoln following investment in additional drilling and other geo-environmental equipment.   Working with local companies, Pygott & Crone and Stirlin, the expansion brought two new jobs to Lincoln and offers wellness facilities for staff. Our offices in Leeds and Manchester also saw a move to larger premises.

New team members

2017 saw Delta-Simons’ drive in recruitment and staff numbers increase by 20%.  We welcomed new staff members across the business, including all service sectors: geo-environmental, environmental planning, ecology and EHS departments; as well as in our Business Support team. Alex Ferguson says of 2017: “We are so pleased with the achievements of 2017, to see the business expand and teams take shape, with new services and offices introduced to ensure that we can really focus on providing excellence in our environment.  Here’s to an equally strong 2018.”
