Matt Hartnup

As Geotechnical Laboratory Manager and Quality Assurance Manager for Lucion Ground Engineering Ltd, Matt is responsible for overseeing all laboratory operations at our Peterborough facility, maintaining UKAS accreditation, and ensuring the highest standards of quality assurance across all testing services.

Since joining Lucion in 2008, Matt has been instrumental in developing and managing our comprehensive geotechnical and construction materials testing capabilities. In his current role, he ensures that all testing procedures meet exacting industry standards, maintains robust quality systems, and oversees the delivery of accurate, reliable results that support our clients’ ground investigation and construction projects.

Matt is particularly experienced in managing UKAS-accredited laboratory operations, implementing and maintaining quality management systems, and providing technical expertise across the full range of geotechnical testing disciplines. His approach is focused on maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and compliance whilst delivering efficient, client-focused laboratory services.

Under Matt’s leadership, our Peterborough laboratory provides a comprehensive range of UKAS-accredited testing services, including:

• Classification tests (particle size distribution, Atterberg limits) 
• Strength testing (triaxial, direct shear, unconfined compression) 
• Specialised analysis (permeability, compaction, chemical analysis) 
• Advanced testing (consolidation, dispersion, empirical index testing) 

Throughout his career, Matt has demonstrated proficiency in construction, civil engineering, soil, and concrete testing, enabling him to provide practical, technically sound solutions to complex geotechnical challenges for clients across the civil engineering, construction, housing, and environmental management sectors.
